What Is Zinc Plating?

Zinc plating is a soft, ductile, corrosion-resistant finish that offers sacrificial protection to steel parts. Unlike many other coatings, zinc protects the underlying metal by corroding first — making it ideal for extending the life of steel components.

Zinc finishes are often enhanced with chromate passivation, which adds further corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal. There are two main types:

Zinc-Nickel Alloy Plating

Zinc-Nickel is an advanced coating that enhances corrosion resistance far beyond standard zinc. Composed of 10–15% nickel, this alloy provides three to four times the protection of traditional zinc plating in salt spray tests.
